RESCUE UNION SCHOOL DISTRICT

JOB TITLE: PRINCIPAL

CLASSIFICATION: Administrative

JOB SUMMARY:

Under the supervision of the superintendent, the principal will serve as the educational leader and chief executive of the school site; is responsible for direction of the instructional program. Supervises the day-to-day operation of the school and school staff.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:

Is the leader of the instructional team. (Team to include administrators, teachers, specialists, consultants, special service personnel, and others).

Provides leadership to the staff in determining objectives and identifying school needs as the basis for developing long and short-range plans for the school.

Interprets and implements the district-approved curriculum program in the light of individual school needs.

Establishes and maintains an effective learning climate in the school.

Establishes an effective school administrative organization with clear lines of authority and with the necessary delegation of responsibility.

Conducts a continuous program of supervision and evaluation regarding performance of all assigned personnel in accordance with the district's adopted uniform guidelines for evaluation
and assessment, recommends appropriate action in cases of substandard performances, and identifies and encourages individual teachers with leadership potential.

Assigns all students in such a way as to encourage their optimum growth.

Makes periodic appraisals of pupil progress.

Coordinates the efforts of teachers, parents, and special team members in working with students in meeting individual needs.

Develops school plans and organizational procedures for the health, safety, discipline and conduct of students as established in district procedures.

Plans, coordinates and evaluates the total program of pupil services including: guidance/counseling, discipline, attendance and extra and co-curricular activities.

Plans, supervises and directs the business operation of the school in accordance with district policies and procedures.

Makes plans for the most effective use of curriculum materials, instructional supplies, equipment, building facilities, school grounds.

Carries out a program of community relations as a means of interpreting and furthering school program through PTA, advisory committees, and other community organizations.

Assumes responsibility for the implementation and observance of all Board policies and regulations by the school's staff and students. As a member of the Administrative Team, assists in and makes recommendations for changes and implementation of school district policy.

Assists in district staff selection, placement and evaluation - both certificated and classified.

Serves on district curriculum and/or advisory committees.

Is responsible for assigning and supervising extra-duty responsibilities of staff, such as duty assignments.

Carries out districtwide responsibilities as assigned by the Superintendent.

Supervises designated administrative/district personnel.

Is familiar with It's Elementary and Caught In The Middle philosophy and teaching strategies.


Performs other duties as assigned.

Valid California Administrative Services Credential authorizing service at the K-8 level. Valid CA driver's license. Valid First Aid and CPR certificate. Minimum 5 years teaching experience in K-8. Master's degree desirable, plus evidence of recent professional growth. Administrative experience desirable.
